About Need A Lift

Kevin Bulley with his First Bus

Kevin Bulley with the First Need a Lift Accessible Bus.

Need A Lift started as an idea in O/A Kevin Bulley’s head in late 2004. The Halifax metro community was suffering the loss of their only accessible taxi service and disabled persons requiring wheel chair accessible transportation were stuck with only one option, the public transit access a bus.

While the public bus system did as good a job as possible, they did not offer an on demand service putting Need A Lifts now frequent clients at the mercy of the public transits scheduled services.

What if someone had a doctor’s appointment on a day they couldn’t get service?

What if they wanted to go visit a friend or family member?

Kevin saw a better way and in February 2005 Need A Lift was launched with it’s first bus service Halifax and surrounding areas in Metro.

Kevin’s initial vision was to provide people with disabilities a way to get from Point A to Point B. That initial vision has grown from one bus to ten and Need A Lift now provides services to the majority of senior complexes in Halifax Metro, the Halifax Port Authority and multiple other private and public services in the city.
